Bridger coal mine to close its doors

Pacific Minerals has confirmed with a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN Act) notification that the Bridger Coal operation will permanently idle on or after Nov. 19.

The underground mine in Point of Rocks, Wyo., will furlough 94 workers. The letter indicated that employees in the mine’s collective bargaining agreements do not have bumping rights but will retain bidding rights for surface mining positions at the site.

The union representative for Bridger’s workers is International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local S1978.

Bridger Coal was first founded in 1973, and was the state’s only underground coal mine.

Pacific Minerals (dba Bridger Coal Co.) is a subsidiary of energy company PacifiCorp.
